The Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Award was established by Cisco and Global Citizen to recognize and lift up a young person positively impacting the world, demonstrate the impact that young people are having on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals , and accelerate global problem solving (the 17 Global Goals as stated by the UN). The Global Citizen organization has inspired 27 million actions, leading to $48.8 billion in commitments that have impacted 880 million lives so far.

In order to apply all applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30, and they have to have a documented track record of measurable impact at scale over the last 3-5 years advancing one or more Global Goals or in other words, one or more universal calls for action. All applicants must have developed vision and concrete future plans for how to continue on doing their work in the next 3 to 5 years, including how the prize they receive would advance their efforts in making a change and reaching their goals. They also have to be innovative with technology or Internet-based communication in order to improve efficiency, reach and magnify impact.

Note: All are welcome to apply, with the only exception being  countries and entities subject to financial or other sanctions by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) or other government entity of the United States of America that may restrict the transfer of the Prize money.

The winners will receive the prize, but the money, US$250,000, will be given to the organization they are a part of already. As based on the accomplishments of the previous winner, Wawira Njiru, who has used the opportunity to address a very urgent problem in Kenya. She has founded an organization concentrated on cooking and delivering food for students, which she started by doing it all herself, and now –only last year– she has managed to serve her one millionth meal. With the help of the prize money, you will be able to continue to build on and advance your Goals by being able to develop your plans more securely, like finding a good and strong team; using the money to – improving the technology aspect of your work, like the past winner Wawira Njiru did by developing a payment system that ended up increasing the efficiency of her organiaation Food for Education.
