Our Summer School takes students on a four-week immersive learning experience to build the practical skills and mindset necessary for transformative leadership.  It takes place between 26 May and 21 June 2019. Our syllabus is a unique blend of theoretical, mindful, reflective and active practice, built around a series of live local projects in Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh Summer School is open to the following groups of students:
The Edinburgh Summer School will run for four weeks between 26 May and 21 June 2019. It will be an immersive and intense learning experience, and you will be expected to be available between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday. You will also be expected to be available on one evening to meet your live project clients, and there will be an optional bus tour of Edinburgh on Saturday 2 June.
All successful applicants will not be required to pay tuition fees, and will be provided with a bus pass for the month. Food and accommodation costs while in Edinburgh will not be covered.
A limited amount of funding is available to cover accommodation, visas, round-trip flights and a small stipend for lunch costs for Scholars from Mastercard Foundation partner institutions based in Sub-Saharan Africa. Accommodation will be in University of Edinburgh catered accommodation (breakfast and dinner provided). This funding does not cover travel insurance, and successful applicants will be expected to source their own.
Summer School mornings primarily consist of theoretical and practical workshops. These will help students understand themselves, work more effectively in a team, contextualise complex issues and deliver successful collaborative solutions. On each day, there will be time to engage in mindful practice and reflect on personal development.
Summer School afternoons will focus on live team-based project and will give students the opportunity to put into practice the theories and ideas you have developed so far.
All sessions will be held in or around the George Square campus at the University of Edinburgh. When working on the live project, you will be working in the city in addition to the University’s impressive Makers Space, which will give you access to cutting edge technology, materials and expertise.
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, adaptable and engaged students who are committed to making change in their communities and beyond.
Once accepted onto the Summer School, we will expect you to commit to attending all sessions on time, being a helpful and supportive team member and contributing actively to all discussions and activities. Students travelling to Edinburgh for the Summer School should be prepared to hit the ground running, as there will not be an extended period of orientation.
The Edinburgh Summer School will be neither formally assessed nor accredited. Progress will be measured through daily reflection sessions and a requirement for students to document their experiences.
Applications will open on Monday 14 January 2019Â at 2pm GMT and will close on 15 February 2019 at 2pm GMT.
