CERN is offering a Job opportunity to work as Machining Technician in Switzerland. You will join The Detector Technology group in the Experimental Physics department (EP-DT) participates in the development, construction and operation of particle detectors for experiments at CERN. This comprises LHC detector consolidation and upgrades projects as well as non-LHC activities. The company operates a number of mechanical workshops, in which we develop prototype components and perform small volume series production. It deals with a large spectrum of materials, from metals and polymers to composites.  

Responsibilities:

  1. Programming and use of CNC machine-tools; 3,4 and 5 axis
  2. Manufacturing of mechanical parts on conventional machines
  3. Participation to an assembly of mechanical structures
  4. Collaboration with the EP-DT Engineering office in the design of new parts and assemblies
  5. Performing conventional dimensional metrology
  6. Participation in the development of new tooling and assembly procedures

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. A valid driving license is required.
  2. Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  3. Shift work, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  4. Work in radiation controlled areas, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  5. Interventions in underground installations, when required by the needs of the Organization.

Qualifications:

  1. Extensive experience in precise and standard machining of parts (metal and non-metal)
  2. Proven experience in programming and using computer numerical controlled machines (CNC).  3, 4 and 5 axis is mandatory
  3. Proven experience in the use of CAD (2D and 3D) and CAM software
  4. Proven experience in the application of conventional dimensional metrology
  5. Experience in precision mechanics adjustment and assembly
  6. Experience in polymers and composite materials
  7. Manufacturing of mechanical parts
  8. Programming and use of CNC machine tools and machining centers
  9. Knowledge and application of conventional dimensional metrology
  10. Production of 2D drawings and 3D models
  11. Precision assembly of mechanical structures and equipment
  12. Achieving results: delivering high-quality work on time and fulfilling expectations.
  13. Demonstrating flexibility: adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements
  14. Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships
  15. Learning and sharing knowledge: keeping up-to-date with developments in own field of expertise and readily absorbing new information
  16. Solving problems: adopting a pragmatic approach; understanding the value of adopting generic rather than ‘gold -plated' technical solutions
  17. Spoken and written English or French: basic knowledge of the other language would be an asset, or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
