The United Nations is offering an internship opportunity at the UN Library in Geneva, to support the Library Services Section. As interns will work on Resources monitoring and Analysis.

Duration and Working Days:

The internship will last a maximum of 6 months and is Unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five (5) days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the Section.

Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) preferably in International relations or Library or Archives Science or Information Technology Sciences; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
  2. Be computer literate in standard software applications; knowledge of HTML and/or elementary programming skills is desirable;
  3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  5. Fluency in English and knowledge of French is required.
  6. Possessing the following skills:
  • Teamwork.
  • Communication. 
  • Technological Awareness.

Responsibilities:

The intern will participate in a Library project to facilitate and promote worldwide access to UN resources. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Analyze and evaluate requests for UN resources
  2. Participate in the establishment of a survey on UN resources utilization
  3. Participate in the creation of online tools devoted to the promotion of UN knowledge and resources
  4. Participate in the establishment of a monitoring system for UN resources as they are produced
  5. Help to establish and maintain relationships with institutional partners who produce UN resources
  6. Participate in the indexing of selected UN documents under the project
  7. Perform other duties as required.

Required Documents:

The Cover Note must include: 

  1. Title of degree currently pursuing.
  2. Graduation Date (When will the applicant be graduating/ have graduated from the program).
  3. IT skills and programs the applicant is proficient in. 
  4. Top three areas of interest.
  5. An explanation why he/she is the best candidate for this specific internship.
  6. Explanation of his/her interest in the United Nations Internship Program. 

Online Personal History Profile must include:

  1. All past work experiences.
  2. IT skills.
  3. Three references.
