United Nations announces an internship opportunity in political affairs. This internship is located in the office of the special coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse. The internship is for a period of three months, with the possibility of extension. It's unpaid and full-time. Interns in their last year and graduates will work five days per week for 35 hours under the supervision of a staff member within the office.

  • You must consider all those to whom services are provided to be "clients " and seeks to see things from clients' point of view.
  • You should establish and maintain productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect.
  • You should identify clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions.
  • You must monitor ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems.
  • You should keep clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. but for this position, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable.

You must: 

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program in second university degree or equivalent, or higher; OR 
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); OR
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

  1. Researching on issues related to the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse including data collection and analysis.
  2. Supporting in implementing internal and external communications strategies through the use of web-based tools.
  3. Providing general office support services; drafting and/or processing a variety of correspondence and other communications.
  4. Assisting in preparing, updating and maintaining a variety of presentations and other communications materials.
  5. Other responsibilities, as required.
