The United Nations (UN) is offering final-year students and graduates from anywhere in the world the opportunity to apply for a Human Resources Internship in Beirut, Lebanon for 2021. 

Responsibilities:

Training and Performance Management: 

  1. Coordinate upcoming training by collecting information from various stakeholders (reservation, data, certification, etc.).
  2. Assist in preparing the classroom set-up, equipment and software installation.
  3. Welcome the candidates, record their attendance and read the instructions, as needed.
  4. Attend training sessions as member of the HRMS team.
  5. Refer staff members to the administrative instruction on the performance management system in the United Nations.

Recruitment:

  1. Learn about Competency-Based Interviews; how to develop interview skills and how to conduct and pass Competency-Based Interviews.
  2. Understand the components of Job Openings.
  3. Assist, as appropriate, in generating a new job opening in the recruitment portal.
  4. Understand the Staff Selection System and the relevant administrative instruction.
  5. Conduct the recruitment formalities for interns based on the administrative instruction for the internship program in the United Nations.
  6. Maintain databases for interns, as well as consultants and individual contractors (CICs) for statistical purposes.
  7. Compile data on interns.
  8. Conduct research on a specific recruitment-related topic.
  9. Conduct satisfaction and feedback surveys among interns.

Monitoring and Organizational Management: 

  1. Get familiarized with basic facts and the Charter of the United Nations.
  2. Search the HR handbook portal, the UN intranet iSeek and the careers portal for HR-related matters, namely rules and regulations, job opportunities, examinations, etc.

Benefits and Entitlements: 

  1. Assist in the computation of benefits and entitlements, such as the education grant using Excel; Assist HR Partners in collecting and verifying data and making draft calculations.
  2. Learn about the different types of appointments and contractual systems in the UN (temporary, fixed-term, continuing,) and the different related terms, benefits and entitlements.
  3. Support the team in projects related to improvement, standardization, streamlining, and automation of functions related to the administration of benefits and entitlements.

Research and Strategic Human Resources Management:

  1. Conduct research and collect data for digital solutions.
  2. Research the UN website for cases related to specific issues (e.g. disputes under restructuring).

Records Management: 

  1. Receive, sort, digitize and file documents for Official Status Files (OSF), and inactive or separated staff members, as well as for Consultants and Individual Contractors.
  2. Label files for separated staff members and maintain the relevant computer records.
  3. Create a new OSF for a new staff member.
  4. Manage CICs’ dedicated team inbox and save records of the latter category.
  5. Communicate with administrative assistants.
  6. Prepare staff attestations.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned such as précis-writing, research and correspondence, time and attendance, alumni network, etc.

Education:

  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
  4. Be computer literate, especially in Word and Excel. 
  5. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  6. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages:

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
