Facebook announces a job opportunity in UAE to work as a public policy director in MENA region. The position is responsible for policy issues at the intersection of technology, social media, human rights and emerging market entry/growth, aligned to the MENA region. The ideal candidate is a public policy expert, who can combine a passion for seeing the potential of technology with the ability to create the opportunity to connect across the region, while having a deep understanding of the policy and human rights implications of the company, platforms and products. They will be a deeply strategic thinker with impeccable integrity who can inspire and empower a team to drive results, with an extensive knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics across the Middle East and North Africa. They will be committed to developing and empowering a highly skilled, dedicated team, ensuring an inclusive environment for the whole team to flourish, and with demonstrated expertise in being an internal and external business champion for equity and inclusion. Always on the front foot, the candidate will have the ability to see emerging regulatory trends, in order to quickly discern the impact taking place on Facebook’s platform (content) but also impact towards the platform (such as regulation).  

Eligibility:

You must have:

  • A deep understanding of political systems and relevant policy and civil society institutions in MENA.
  • Experience in policy engagement or development for a multi-national corporation or civil society institution.
  • The ability to connect the unconnected, and extensive experience with relevant policy issues, including internet governance, data privacy, human rights/free expression, taxation, net neutrality, child online protection, etc.
  • A truly inclusive leader, with experience of developing the careers of diverse teams.
  • Authenticity, integrity and humility will be the key behaviors of the candidates
  • Sound judgement, and strong communication and persuasive skills as well as a creative outlook, perspective and ability to lead in a dynamic environment.
  • Passion about Facebook and its mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
  • A cross-functional team player with the ability to drive and manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously, collaborative.
  • Deep interest in technology and related policy issues.

It's preferred to have:

  • MBA, or law degree preferred.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:

  1. Monitor the region for policy issues at the intersection of technology, social media, human rights, emerging market entry/growth.
  2. Represent Facebook in meetings with politicians and policy makers.
  3. Lead a high-performing team who work with political bodies, policymakers and non-governmental organizations on technology policy issues.
  4. Be an internal advisor for and champion of MENA for the company, partnering to identify opportunity.
  5. Collaborate with country and region leads to build and execute strategic plans for MENA, identifying trends across the region and opportunities to scale approaches.
  6. Communicate Facebook's position on key policy issues in public presentations to a wide range of audiences, both internally and externally.
  7. Lead conversations with local public policy teams and devise proactive strategies for addressing key issue areas, building relationships with policy makers, civil society and academics.
  8. Understand, identify and anticipate key policy challenges affecting Facebook in these markets and build proactive strategies to handle crisis management.
  9. Show deep care for your team, helping and supporting everyone’s careers, removing blockers so that they may thrive, feel empowered and be valued.
  10. Work closely with other functions within Facebook in MENA to ensure effective collaboration, driving key strategic outcomes for the region.
