Applications call for Statistical Analysis Internship at the United Nations in Thailand

The Social Development Division/ Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation Section calls application for internship Social Science, Statistical Analysis in Poverty Reduction, Inequality and Social Protection in Bangkok, Thailand. The internship is for 2-4 months with an opportunity for extension up to 6 months, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is unpaid and full-time where interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation Section.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Undertaking desk research and data processing, including statistical analysis through the use of various statistical and econometric programmes, including R, excel, etc. Topics covered will include poverty reduction, inequality and social protection, with a focus on people in vulnerable situations such as persons with disabilities, migrants, youth, older persons and women, as well as research on policies for addressing those issues.
• Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education

Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
2) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
3) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views.

Studies in social science, economics or other relevant areas required.

Work Experience

 

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of an another official UN language is desirable.
