Description

Yerevan State University as part of the Jean Monnet Network “Developing European Studies in the Caucasus” (DESCnet) invites graduate (BA level) and post-graduate (MA level: students and recent graduates) students to apply for the second DESCnet Summer School on European Integration and Energy Security.

The school will be held from July 14-24, 2017 and will be hosted by the Centre for European Studies of the Yerevan State University (Armenia).

The school aims to spread knowledge and examine interrelated processes of European Integration and Energy security issues in the South Caucasus, Russia and Turkey with a special emphasis on challenging geopolitical situation in the region, existing conflicts, closed borders as well as current economic developments. Through interactive methods of teaching and learning, participants will have an opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge and to analyse political, legal and economic aspects of Energy Security in the Caucasus and the EU; possible developments and challenges. Apart from lectures, round tables, workshops and seminars, participants will work on special student project/s and make presentations at the final part of the school programme.

Eligibility

  • The school is open to participants from all countries of the Caucasus as well as to international students from the EU and beyond;
  • Participants should be at third or final year of their B.A. studies or obtaining their M.A. degree in political science, sociology, criminal justice, European Studies or EU Law related disciplines;
  • Ph.D. students might be accepted in exceptional cases (if their research area refers to energy security).

Costs

  • The working language is English and participation is equal to 6 ECTS credits;
  • Participation fee is €100 which covers accommodation, materials and tuition. The number of seats is limited;
  • The Yerevan State University will provide the travel information, guidance and prepare visa invitations for those participants who require visa to Armenia;
  • Participants will have to cover their own transportation costs.

To apply for the school, please send your CV and an essay in English (max 2000 words) until June 2, 2017 to Ms Kristine Gevorgyan (kristine.gevorgyan@ysu.am). The topic of the essay is “Energy security in EU and South Caucasus: common policies or common challenges?”

Participants who are required to acquire visa to Armenia, are also asked to submit a scanned copy of their passport alongside with other relevant documents.
