Duties

The Study Abroad Specialist will develop, organize, and implement services and programs related to university-approved study abroad opportunities and serve as the primary approver on study abroad applications. Also, the Specialist advises students on study abroad options and facilitates the application process, especially as related to visa issues, matters of safety and logistics, and course transfer.

Furthermore, the selected candidate will collect and analyze program and student participant data; devise and direct the promotion of campus-wide study abroad opportunities. Also, serve as study abroad point of contact for all students, parents, faculty, and staff. Likewise, devise and administer pre-departure study abroad orientation programs. Additionally, the Study Abroad Specialist functions as the campus manager for Terra Dotta Studio Abroad software and serves as an immigration advisor (DSO, ARO to maintain compliance with U.S. Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State.

Also, the Study Abroad Specialist must be available to students and parents to assess and respond to study abroad emergency situations 24/7. This may require travel outside the United States as well as evening and weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications

1. Bachelors degree in any course of study.
2. Three (3) years (36 months) of professional work experience comparable to that performed at the Study Abroad Advisor level of this series or in other positions of comparable responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Masters degree from an accredited U.S. institution.
-Experience organizing study abroad programs OR participation in university study abroad programming OR participation in other sponsored international study programs, e.g., Fulbright, Peace Corps, Boren.
-Evidence of the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, e.g., students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, government officials, affiliate representatives, partnership colleagues.
-Experience as a study abroad advisor.
-Student advising experience at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education.
-Working knowledge of Terra Dotta Studio Abroad software.
-Exceptional organizational skills.
