United Nations calls application for Environmental Affairs Internship in ESCAP East and North-East Asia (ENEA) Office located in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The appointment is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months as per the requirements of the division. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Furthermore, interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.

Summary :

Basically, interns will be assigned to conduct research on energy security and environmental sustainability including through the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC, www.neaspec.org) and assist in the planning and implementation of activities. Specific topics and works will be mutually agreed upon with his/her supervisor. In particular, five thematic areas of NEASPEC are as follows:

 

  • •Transboundary air pollution
  • •Nature conservation
  • •Marine protected areas
  • •Low carbon cities
  • •Desertification and land degradation

Key Duties :

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individuals background and the interns assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties of this United Nations Environmental Affairs Internship in Korea may include, but are not limited to:

  • •Review and analyze literature and country policies related to the above mentioned programmatic areas
  • •Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents
  • •Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings
  • •Document, legal and internet research
  • •Assistance during conferences
  • •Working on web-presentation
  • •Evaluation of projects
  • •Compiling statistics
  • •Media analysis
  • •Speech-writing

Requirements :

In order to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • a)be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • b)be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • c)have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

Language: Fluency in spoken written English is required for the internship and also fluency in spoken and written any language of ENEA member countries preferred. In addition to that, knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat
