A differential tuition fee exemption will be awarded to new international students enrolled full time in a French-language program or who are enrolled in an English-language program with a French immersion option. The program is available for foreign students enrolling in Undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Ottawa for the 2020/2021 academic year.

University of Ottawa Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Benefits

Selected candidate will pay tuition fees at the rate of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. For example:

an international student enrolling for fall term (September to December) in a Chemical engineering (Undergraduate level) need to pay around $27,129.44 CDN. However, with the differential tuition fee exemption status, he will only pay around $5,500 CDN. He would have received around $21,600 CDN in tuition reduction.

a foreign student registering for fall term (September to December) in a Chemical engineering (Master of Engineering) need to pay around $12,000 CDN. However, with the differential tuition fee exemption status, he will only pay around $3,960 CDN. He would have received about $8,040 CDN in tuition reduction.

The uOttawa offers a wide range of programs in English en French. However, the list below is only for programs offered in French.

University of Ottawa Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Eligibility

To be eligible for the differential tuition fee exemption, you must meet criteria below:

Undergraduate programs

be admitted into a program offered in French; and
be enrolled as a full-time student and take a minimum of 9 units (3 courses) taught in French per term.

be admitted into a program offered in English with a French immersion option; and
meet the admission requirements of the French Immersion Stream; and
be enrolled as a full-time student and take a minimum of 9 units (3 courses) taught in French per term.

Note: To maintain your differential tuition fee exemption until the end of your program, you must:

be enrolled full-time every term (except for Spring/Summer, when you can study part-time), and
be enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses taught in French per term (9 units).

Graduate programs

be admitted to a program of studies offered only in French

have a secondary or postsecondary diploma in French attesting to a minimum of two years of study, and
for programs that offer compulsory courses in both official languages (English and French), enrol for the compulsory courses offered in French.

Note: In order to maintain your differential tuition fee exemption until the end of your program, you must:

be enrolled full-time every term, and
for programs that offer compulsory courses in both official languages (French and English), enrol in the compulsory courses offered in French.

Please note that the differential tuition fee exemption cannot be combined with the Education Bursary for International undergraduate, Master’s Students or the International Doctoral Scholarship.
