Description

Women have made significant contributions to science from the earliest times. The Faculty of Science at UQ acknowledges all the famous women who have made a remarkable contribution to science. The India Women in Science Scholarship is to encourage and reward female students from India studying undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs administered by the Faculty of Science at The University of Queensland. 

The Scholarship is offered for new students commencing in Semester 2 2020. Closing date for the application is 30 May 2020. Successful scholars will receive a scholarship valued at AU$10,000.

Eligibility

  • Female citizens of India, who normally reside in India and are not already undertaking any studies in Australia
  • Must not simultaneously hold another scholarship for study at UQ
  • Have an unconditional or a conditional offer for an approved program administrated by the Faculty of Science commencing in Semester 2, 2020
  • All conditions outlined on the conditional offer must be met by the scholarship closing date
  • Dual Degree programs are not eligible for this scholarship
  • Strong academic performance and completion of a personal statement (create change – contribution to science)
  • Be an international student enrolling in the first semester of study at UQ in a degree program offered by Faculty of Science
  • Not have already commenced studies at UQ. If the applicant is already enrolled at UQ and seeks a program change, the applicant will not be eligible for this scholarship

How to apply

UQ must receive your program and scholarship applications by 5pm (AEST) on the scholarship closing date:

  • 30 May 2020 for Semester 2 (July) 2020 commencement
  • UQ will not consider incomplete applications or applications which are found to be inaccurate, false or misleading

To apply, you must have already received a letter of offer from UQ (unconditional or conditional), and provide us with:

  • Personal/motivational statement – this statement should be no more than 400 words and address:
    • The reasons for your interest in your chosen degree program, including why you wish to study this program at UQ
    • Your personal goals and ambitions and evidence of any previous activities or experiences (including voluntary activities) which demonstrate your commitment to those goals and ambitions
    • Your capacity to create change and contribute to science

Selection criteria

Following the closing date, applications will be considered by the following process:

  • The Faculty of Science Associate Dean (Academic) (or nominee) will select scholarship recipients
  • Selection will be based on candidates’ academic performance as well as their potential to contribute to science, assessed on the basis of their personal statements. UQ also reserves the right to prioritise specific study areas in the selection process
  • Wherever possible, UQ will notify applicants of the outcome of their application within two weeks of the scholarship closing date
  • The decision of the Associate Dean (Academic) (or nominee) is final and no correspondence will be entered into
  • The scholarship cannot be deferred

UQ will select winners based on:

  • Academic performance (based on academic credentials submitted as part of UQ program application).
  • Capacity to create change and contribute to science (based on the personal statement submitted as part of the Science International Scholarship application)
  • UQ values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from those who bring diversity to the university
