Curtin University in Australia is offering two Ph.D. scholarships to conduct research in a project funded by the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia. This multidisciplinary project investigates the application of organic, inorganic, and bacterial based barriers for containment and sealing during in-situ Recovery operations in mining environments. The project will involve physical, chemical, biological, geochemical, mineralogical, and microbial characterization of substrate samples obtained from mine sites. Their properties will be assessed in relation to the application of conventional and cement barriers under controlled laboratory conditions. The efficacy and robustness of different barriers will be evaluated under different physical conditions.
Curtin is an innovative, global university known for its high-impact research, strong industry partnerships, and commitment to preparing students for jobs of the future. It is Western Australia’s largest and most culturally diverse university with Australia’s third-largest international student population. It also has campuses in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, and Mauritius, and a network of more than 130 international partners.
