Description

The purpose of the scholarship is to support Faculty of Medicine students in financial need who are:

  • first in their immediate family to attend university, and/or
  • Australian Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander descent, and/or
  • Pacific Islander descent.

The scholarship was established in 2018 through an annual gift and pledge commitment from Dr Graham Colditz, this scholarship was created in memory of his father Dr Gordon Colditz.

Eligibility

You are eligible for this scholarship if you:

  • submit an application to the Associate Dean by the closing date for applications; and
  • are a full-time domestic student in accordance with The University’s Fee Policy; and
  • are an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and/or a Pacific Islander person; and/or the first member of your immediate family to attend university; and
  • can provide documentary evidence of financial need; and
  • are enrolled in an Approved Program; and
  • do not hold another similar scholarship in the year of award.

Complete the Cover Page and Student Income Statement and email all required documentation to med.prizes@uq.edu.au by the due date.

Selection criteria

For the selection process, the Associate Dean must establish a selection committee, comprising:

  • the Associate Dean, or nominee, as chair of the committee; and
  • the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) (or nominee); and
  • at least two further members drawn from either professional or academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine.

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit, as demonstrated by:

  • evidence of financial need; and
  • strength of the applicant’s personal statement outlining the benefit the Scholarship will have to their studies.
