At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology, a position as Associate Professor in Urban Design is open for appointment from June1st, 2021 or soon hereafter. The Department of Architecture, Design, and Media Technology's goal is the development of an innovative cluster of engineering-based environments for education and research which integrate creativity, engineering and technology within the disciplines of architecture, urban design, industrial design, digital design and interactive media. The department is a leading research and educational environment in Denmark that addresses the challenge of the interplay between creativity and technology, and develops new areas in research and education directed towards the end-user.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position is affiliated to the urban design research environment at Aalborg University and should contribute to the strengthening of the department’s research profile within urban design. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate with a background in urban design, architecture, urban planning or similar relevant disciplines.

This is a permanent position and you will be part of an ambitious research and teaching environment. We expect that you will contribute to the knowledge production of the department by conduction and disseminating research. The position will contain teaching obligations in relation to programs related to urban design as well contain administrative tasks related to the department.

Your profile

You should be willing to enter into a collaborative research and teaching environment with an interdisciplinary approach that conducts critical, social-minded urban design research and teaching. The research environment focuses on urban design that explores the built environment and its relation to humans, within the two themes of mobilities and urban transformation.

You must demonstrate strong competences within urban design research methodologies and theories and have solid research and dissemination experience within urban design. Within the field of urban design, you have research experience with issues such as urban regeneration, temporary uses and post-industrial urban development. Furthermore, you have a solid background in the analytical and methodological aspects of urban design as well as research experience within co-creation.

Besides urban design competencies and skills, you must show a strong academic commitment to both basic and applied research. An interest in research of societal relevance is important, as well as an interest to explore inter-disciplinary collaborations.

Research and teaching qualifications corresponding with level achieved from a successful employment as Assistant Professor or similar is required. You must document scientific production within the research field as well as it is presupposed that you have teaching experience and have achieved pedagogical training.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

AGREEMENT

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics. The first 3 months of your employment is a trial period, and in this period both Aalborg University / xx and you can terminate the contract with 14 days' notice at any day.
