Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Chemical Science and Engineering, Fibre and Polymer Science

We are looking for a doctoral student with a genuine interest in materials chemistry, a strong driving force, and a problem-solving approach for a new project on smart matter. This doctoral project aims to synthesize, functionalize and tailor-make new stimuli-responsive polymer gels. These serve as material digits in a hybrid matrix with thermal and magnetic actuators translating the system to reversible sol-gel transitions. Research includes collaboration with researchers in micro- and nanosystems, electronics, and robotics. Materials are developed with sustainability as a guiding principle and renewability/recyclability in focus.

The project is part of a research program on Digital matter funded within the framework of KTH Digital futures

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Professor Ulrica Edlund, Fibre And Polymer Technology, KTH and Professor Wouter van der Wijngaart, Micro- and nanosystems, KTH
