Description

The Scholarship was established in 2011 and maintained by the income of a bequest from Ailsa Munro in memory of her late husband, Dr T.V. Stubbs-Brown, an orthopaedic surgeon.

This scholarship sits under the Faculty of Medicine’s Financial Aid Scholarships.

 

Eligibility

An applicant is eligible for a Scholarship, if the applicant –

  1. submits an application to the Dean, by the closing date for applications;
  2. is enrolled full-time in the Doctor of Medicine;
  3. can provide documentary evidence of financial hardship; and
  4. does not hold another Scholarship that the Dean considers similar.

Your application must include the following:

  1. Completed Cover Page
  2. Completed Student Income Statement (please note that payments received from Centrelink are considered as income)
  3. Centrelink Income Statement
  4. Copy of your unofficial transcript from Si-Net
  5. Personal statement  - There are two primary questions of greatest importance when writing your personal statement, namely
  • Why do you believe you require financial assistance?
  • What is your evidence of surgical interest particularly in orthopaedic surgery?

 

Selection criteria

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit, as demonstrated by:

  • evidence of financial need; and
  • academic achievement in courses undertaken in the relevant program; and
  • strength of interest shown in surgery, and in particular orthopaedics; and
  • personal qualities; and
  • any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant's future success in the profession of medicine.

The selection committee may decide to interview short-listed applicants.

In a year where there are eligible applicants from a rural area, preference for one scholarship will be given to the applicant from a rural area showing greatest merit.

Scholarship value : The total combined annual value of the Scholarships will be at least $34,000 unless this amount exceeds the annual income from the underlying endowment fund.
