Since their founding, Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the United States have battled the issue of systemic racism head-on. By providing black and other disadvantaged students with a safe, relatable, and culturally harmonized environment to continue their education, HBCUs are the spearhead of social justice in education for the future.

Women in these spaces have excelled after graduating, taking on careers that have advocated for disadvantaged communities to push them past the racial and gender barriers present today.

Most of these women come from communities that have endured generations of oppression. Pursuing impactful careers not only helps themselves, but their communities, and others in need, kickstarting the contagious cycle of upward mobility.

The Wilma King Means Scholarship will support three women from low-income families in North Carolina who are interested in or are currently pursuing a degree at an HBCU and have a vision of starting their own business and providing relief for their community.

To apply, please write about your goals for the future and what you see as the role of entrepreneurship on your journey.
