African American students are often underserved and underrepresented in higher education.

African American students are far more likely to attend underfunded schools than their white peers, with 45% of Black students attending high-poverty schools as compared to just 8% of white students. This can leave African American students feeling unprepared to pursue a college degree.

In memory of Ruth and Johnnie McCoy, this scholarship aims to support African American high school seniors or current undergraduate students in any area of study so that they can pursue their dreams.

Any high school senior or undergraduate student who is from North Carolina and of African American descent may apply for this scholarship.

To do so, tell us about yourself, why you want to attend college, and how you will use your degree to benefit the world.

Ethnicity: You must be of African American descent

Education Level: Current high school senior or undergraduate student

Background: From North Carolina
