The call for applications for 2022-2023 Lithuanian short-term studies IS NOW OPEN!

Type of scholarship: Lithuanian short-term (1-2 semesters) studies

Number of scholarships: 15

Studies can be arranged: For choosing the higher education institution for Lithuanian short-term studies, candidates are advised to use AIKOS platform, selecting key words, for example  “Lithuanian philology”.

15 scholarships for Lithuanian short-term studies:

• 10 scholarships for Lithuanian short-term (1-2 semesters) studies are offered for candidates who are students, lecturers or researchers (researchers in linguistics or philology only) of higher education and research institutions of all countries of the world (except Russian citizens).

• 5 scholarships for Lithuanian short-term (1-2 semesters)studies are offered for candidates who are foreigners of Lithuanian origin of all countries of the world (except Russian citizens).

Programme requirements for the Lithuanian studies

Applicants for the Lithuanian short-term studies scholarships are required to choose and design their study programme in such a way that at least 75% of the subjects are related to Lithuanian studies, which might include subjects such as Lithuanian philology, linguistics, literature, Lithuanian history, ethnology and folklore, culturology, etc.

The autumn semester in higher education and research institutions of Lithuania normally lasts from September until January and the spring semester – from February until June. In order to arrange studies in Lithuania and sign Conditional Agreement,, the candidate is advised to contact directly the International Office of the chosen Lithuanian higher education institution. For choosing the higher education institution for Lithuanian short-term (1-2 semesters) studies, candidates are advised to use AIKOS platform, selecting key words “Lithuanian philology” and etc. for search.

HOW TO APPLY:

Documents must be submitted only through the online application system. There is no requirement to send them by post, fax or email. Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

Eligibility:

1. The candidate has to receive an official approval of acceptance (Conditional Agreement) from the chosen Lithuanian higher education institution.

2. The candidate has to be a student, lecturer or researcher (researchers in linguistics or philology only) of higher education and research institution of all countries of the world (except Russian citizens).

3. The candidate has to have good knowledge of Lithuanian, English or other language required to study in the chosen study programme (the minimum of B2 level of study language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required).

4. Priority will be given to the applicants who:

• study or teach at Lithuanian (Baltic) science centers (students, teachers and scientists) – it should be noted in the application form;
• formally or informally study Lithuanian language, history and culture as a subject at the home institution – it should be noted in the application form.

Benefits:

• All candidates approved for the Lithuanian short–term studies will receive a monthly scholarship of approx. 630 EUR. The exact sum of the total amount paid for the candidate will be calculated according to the number of days that specific month consists of, thus slight variations in the monthly scholarship might occur. The scholarship is intended to cover the scholarship holder’s expenses only. Additional amount for accompanying partners or family is not provided. Lithuanian state scholarships cannot be double funded from other sources, e.g. other scholarships or other academic exchange programmes.
• Tuition fee for studies will be covered by the Republic of Lithuania and directly transferred to the higher education institution. The maximum amount of the tuition fee will be determined by the normative costs that are approved by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania.
• Any other fees such as a student union fee, a library membership fee, etc. shall be paid by the scholarship holder.
• Travel and accommodation costs shall be covered by the scholarship holder.

Required documents: 

The candidates must provide the copies of these listed documents through the online application system):

1. Completed application form (through the online application system).

2. The Conditional Agreement for Studies (the form must be added to the application form as an attachment using this template form (please open the link in a new tab) – it must be completely filled in and signed by three parties: candidate, a responsible person at the sending and receiving institutions). The programme of Lithuanian short-term studies specified in the study agreement must consist of at least 30 credits per semester. It is not applicable for candidates of the third study cycle. At least 75% of the subjects in the study programme must be related to Lithuanian studies (e.g. Lithuanian philology, linguistics, literature, history, ethnology, folklore, cultural studies, etc.). Recommendations for filling out the Conditional Agreement (please open the link in a new tab).

3. One recommendation letter (provided through the online application system or added to the application form as an attachment. It is recommended to use this template form(please open the link in a new tab)).

4. Certificate of proficiency in Lithuanian or English language: TOEFL, IELTS, CPE or other widely recognized exams of English proficiency are acceptable. If the candidate does not hold any of those certificates, then a signed letter confirming the proficiency in the language from the home university’s professor of English or Lithuanian is also acceptable. This document should certify a minimum of a B2 level of command of the language of instruction according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
