The Institute for Technology and Society (ITS) invites researchers, students, and professionals to apply for the ITS Global Policy Fellowship Program 2023. The Program is currently in its 7th edition and has previously welcomed 25 fellows from several countries who share a common interest: technology and its interfaces with Law.

The selected candidates will be able to choose one of our three primary areas of knowledge to develop their research:

– Rights and Technology: content moderation, personal data protection, generative artificial intelligence, technodiversity, metaverse and future of the web;

– GovTech: new development models, distributed technologies, sandbox and regulatory innovation, digital identity;

– Democracy and Technology: disinformation, civic engagement, quadratic voting, future of work and others.

The ITS Global Policy Fellowship Program 2023 is a unique opportunity for those interested in expanding their knowledge about the Brazilian technological context. The Institute’s team has prepared an intensive four-week program, which includes a series of meetings with ITS partners in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and São Paulo.

Requirements

Present their research topics and professional experience to the ITS team;
Publish at least a brief article or text online about their experience as a Fellow in Brazil;
Collaborate with the ITS team in projects and publications;
Participate in lectures and meetings with lawyers, public agents, press, and industry representatives on the subject;
Identify research projects with the ITS team;
Deliver a lecture during the International School of Law and Technology, to be held in Rio in July 2023.

Who should apply?

The Program is open to foreigners only;
Fluency in Portuguese is not mandatory (but proficiency in English is required);

We are looking for students, researchers, and professionals holding Master’s, Ph.D., or MBA degrees, who are engaged in debates in public policy and the Internet. People from all areas of knowledge are encouraged to apply.

the Institute will provide:

Roundtrip air tickets between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo;
Accommodation during trips outside Rio;
Roundtrip air tickets between Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia and one night’s accommodation in Brasilia.

Announcement of selected candidates by email: April 3, 2023;

Program duration: July 3, 2023, to July 28, 2023.

Fellows are expected to stay in Rio de Janeiro for the entire duration of the Program. If the selected fellows wish to do so, they may discuss with ITS the possibility of staying for a longer or shorter period. The entry visa and the costs related to the extended stay should be paid by the fellows themselves.
