The International University of Sarajevo (IUS) is inviting you to its fifth international summer school from July 1 to July 11, 2018. The program aims to make a contribution to the process of dealing with the past, reconciliation and transitional justice approaches in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the region in the post-ICTY context. The School will look into what approaches have (not) been taken and what have been the main obstacles to reconciliation in the country. By examining the ways how and what we as students and researchers can learn from the recent past in order to confront the challenges in the present, summer school promotes the idea of education as an essential tool for reconciliation and an agent of positive societal change in a post-war country like BiH.
In addition, the school emphasizes the importance of experiential and reflexive learning, intercultural learning and action learning as practical pedagogical tools in post-conflict context. Subsequently, the main field trip to Eastern Bosnia, the optional three-day-long participation in the Peace March and a three-day-stay with a local community in the village of Klotjevac near Srebrenica aim to provide the participants with the opportunity to experience learning beyond the classroom, in a community setting, and obtain more intensive hands-on practice with methods, concepts and issues discussed during the class sessions. The summer school is organized as a combination of lectures, workshops, excursions, field-trips, visits to relevant institutions, introduction to governmental and non-governmental organizations, and participation in socio-cultural activities and events.
