The Brunel University’s Department of Neuroscience is offering a fully funded PhD studentship focused on Mechanisms of Interoception and Stress in Medically Unexplained Symptoms.

Eligible candidates must hold a master’s degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Neuroimaging, or a related field and demonstrate a keen interest in researching Medically Unexplained Symptoms. Eligibility Criteria

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a PhD in Neuroscience.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Neuroscience, Psychology, Neuroimaging, or a related field.
    • Demonstrate a strong interest and enthusiasm for researching Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS) and interoceptive mechanisms.
    • Possess excellent analytical and data interpretation skills, particularly in MRI, EEG, and ECG methodologies.
    • Be self-funded or have alternative financial support, as this position is available for Home, EU, and International students.

  • Conducting a comprehensive literature review on MUS, related psychological and biomedical theories, and multimodal data research methods.
  • Designing and developing experimental protocols involving MRI, EEG, and ECG data collection, as well as behavioral paradigms for exploring interoceptive mechanisms and attentional biases.
  • Collecting and analyzing multimodal data from study participants, including operating MRI and EEG equipment, processing, and interpreting data.
  • Preparing research papers and reports based on study findings for publication in scientific journals and conferences.
