Google Ph.D. Fellowships directly support graduate students as they pursue their Ph.D., as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor.
Nurturing and maintaining strong relations with the academic community is a top priority at Google. The Google Ph.D. Fellowship Program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science and related research areas. We currently offer Fellowships in Australia, China, and East Asia, Europe, Africa, India, the United States, and Canada.
In the United States, Canada, and Europe accredited Ph.D. granting institutions in Computer Science or related fields may nominate up to two eligible students during the application period.
The Google North America and Europe Ph.D. Fellowship program application window is now closed for this year. Applications for the 2020 program will open on November 1st, 2019.
In Australia, China and East Asia students must be nominated by an eligible university. Nomination instructions are sent to eligible universities and submissions must be provided directly by an official representative of the university.
Invitations for the 2019 Ph.D. Fellowship Program in China/Hong Kong/Japan/South Korea will be delivered in April 2019. And the application window will be closed on 11:59:59 PM CST May 31, 2019.
Invitations for the 2019 Ph.D. Fellowship Program in Australia will be delivered in March 2019 and awardees will be notified by June 2019.
In India and Africa, students may apply directly during the application period, which opens each February in India and each November in Africa. Applications are open to students in Computer Science and related areas from any Indian or African university.
The Google India Ph.D. Fellowship program application window is closed as of 11:59:59 PM Ph.D. on Friday, 13th April 2018.
The Google Africa PhD Fellowship program application window for 2019 is now open until Monday, 4th February 2019 at 11:59:59 PM GMT.
What are the Global Faculty Research Awards?
The Faculty Research Awards Program sometimes referred to as the Research Awards Program, supports academic research in computer science, engineering, and related fields. Through the program, we fund world-class research at top universities, facilitate interaction between Google and academia, and support projects whose output will be made openly available to the research community. Awards are structured as unrestricted gifts to universities and are designed to support roughly the cost of one graduate student for one year of work.
