Call for Applications for the 2019 ODESSA FELLOWSHIP granted by the City of Regensburg and the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg

The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS Regensburg) and the City of Regensburg have established a joint research fellow program for scientists working in the City of Odessa. We encourage applications from social scientists, political scientists, economists and historians as well as scholars of cognate disciplines from universities and institutions of higher education and research in Odessa. The fellowship aims at strengthening the partnership between the Cities of Regensburg and Odessa, as well as between the IOS and academic institutions in Odessa.

The duration of the research stay usually lasts between two and four weeks. The fellows are expected to conduct research on the contemporary economic and/or political situation in the Odessa region or in the region of Regensburg, or the Danube region respectively. The allowance is determined by the length of the stay and the applicant’s professional experience.

The Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg is one of the largest and longest-established institutions of its kind in Germany with a distinctly international orientation. It is an independent research facility with close links to the University of Regensburg. IOS conducts interdisciplinary research on the history as well as the economic and political development of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. One of our special areas of interest is Ukraine. Furthermore the IOS maintains a special library holding a stock of more than 340.000 media units of literature in the humanities and social sciences relating to the countries of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Together with the University of Regensburg, the institute provides an attractive research environment in a city known for its high quality of life. Regensburg has one of Germany’s largest preserved medieval cities holding the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The application documents should include the following:

• cover letter with statement of preferred length and period of your stay (between March and November 2019)
• a detailed academic Curriculum Vitae naming two references
• a short research proposal in German or English (maximum three pages)
• electronic copies of no more than three academic articles (published or unpublished).

Please note: All applications will be deleted after six months.
