The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group that deals with the private sector, announces the opening of a paid summer internship program, which is offered annually to postgraduate students, who spend 4 to 10 weeks between May and September in Washington DC, or in an IFC regional office to work on various projects. Each year, IFC receives about 1,500 applications, of which 30-40 candidates are selected and recruited into an industrial, regional, or service division within IFC.

Main Functions:

  • The tasks cover different areas of work such as:
  • Business development in specific sectors.
  • Review of the investment proposal.
  • Financial modeling and analysis.
  • Strategy Advisory Services.
  • Evaluation of subsequent investment projects.
  • After a thorough evaluation at the end of the training, successful trainees are encouraged to apply to join the IFC Young Professionals program and serve as Investment Assistants, or any other full-time opportunity upon graduation.

Selection criteria:
Candidates must be in the first or second to last year of the MBA program or similar graduate program. Selection criteria include:

  • For investment positions, work experience (3-6 years) in international finance, which can include corporate finance, investment banking, financial advisory, private equity, credit analysis, or commercial banking.
  • Knowledge of IFC-related sectors and experience in emerging markets is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Business development and customer relationship skills.
  • Enthusiasm to work in multicultural teams from different countries.
  • Fluency in English. (Proficiency in another language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish is an added advantage.)
  • Commitment to sustainable private sector development.

Application and selection procedures:
Applications are open on 3 December 2018 and will last until 15 January 2019. The shortlist is created by the IFC Human Resources division and shared with the managers who select the final trainees.
