The laboratory for Disease Mechanisms in Cancer (KU Leuven, Belgium, www.LDMC.be) is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher. Our team identified somatic mutations in ribosomal proteins in cancer. To understand how mutations in this essential cellular machinery promote tumorigenesis, we characterize the impact of ribosomal protein mutations on the spectrum of expressed proteins in cancer cells (cellular translatome). In the past, our work mainly focused on the role for the ribosomal RPL10 R98S point mutation that is implicated in leukemia. Ribosomal proteins RPL5 and RPL11 are heterozygously lost in 10-35% of various cancer types. In this project, the downstream consequences of such a heterozygous loss of RPL5 and RPL11 in cancer cells will be studied in breast cancer and glioblastoma cell culture and mouse models using proteome and phospho-proteome based methodologies.
The successful candidate will continue an ongoing research line in the lab to characterize the role of heterozygous loss of ribosomal proteins RPL5 and RPL11 in cancer. He/ she will perform proteomics screenings and biochemical experiments in cell culture and mouse models to identify the cancer promoting downstream consequences of RPL5/RPL11 loss. The successful applicant will also help in supervising PhD students in the lab and will be involved in writing of scientific papers, project reports and grant applications.
Starting date: To be negotiated. Any date after March 1st 2021.
