Our Research Group:

In the recently established Collaborative Research Centre 1450 “inSight - Multiscale imaging of organ-specific inflammation” we are looking for a PhD-candidate to work on the development of S100A9-targeting, non-peptidic ligands for the imaging of inflammatory disorders. Our working group (Chemistry/Radiochemistry) is part of the EIMI and the Department of Nuclear Medicine and dedicated to the development of radiotracers as well as optical and optoacoustic probes for non-invasive imaging. Several imaging modalities like single photon emission tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) or optical methods like fluorescence reflecting imaging (FRI) and optoacoustic imaging are available.

The topic of the PhD-thesis will be the synthesis of structurally refined inhibitors (guided by structural biology) targeting S100A9-proteins and their radio- and optical labelling and in vitro and in vivo-evaluation. The PhD-candidate is embedded in an interdisciplinary team of (radio)chemists, (radio)biologists, structural biologists, medical physicists and experimental nuclear physicians.

We expect from you:

- Applicants are expected to have completed a MSc in chemistry (synthetic organic chemistry or radiochemistry), starting with master thesis followed by PhD-thesis is possible.

- Experience in standard analytics (NMR, HPLC, MS, etc.)

- Interest in medical and biological questions

- High motivation and teamwork

We offer you:

- Enrolment in a Dr. rer. nat. program

- Working in a young and motivated international, interdisciplinary team connecting chemical and radiochemical development of new imaging probes with preclinical evaluation up to clinical translation

- Collaboration with physicians, biologists, physicists, and computer scientists in the Collaborative Research Centre 1450

- Shared supervision by the group of Prof. Dr. Cristian Strassert (CeNTech, Münster)
