In Dessau, the city of the Bauhaus, we are approaching complex demands arising from a rapidly changing world with progressive design solutions. Our model of integrated design is in the tradition of the avantgarde. Here the different design disciplines act in concert in order to approach fundamental questions and holistically effective interventions.
At the School of Design, we see research as an integrated field for experimentation that is unifying multiple and diverse themes in exploration. Using the tools of design research, we study processes, spaces, materials and data, as well as their connections, intersections, and touchpoints. Currently, we are conducting research around the following thematic clusters:
To support above mentioned research fields, we are looking to fill the position of a
Research Assistant, part-time, as a PhD researcher
(pay grade 13 TV-L), Nr. 219
The position is limited to a three-year period and covers 50% of regular working-hours.
Your PhD research project should include at least two of the afore-mentioned thematic clusters. Please apply with a two-page draft proposal, in which you outline your project. Alongside your PhD-research you will support the acquisition and execution of research projects and cooperations and conduct two hours of teaching per week in our Bachelor or Master programs.
Requirements
Applicants should have a relevant degree from an art or design field and demonstrated their potential for practice-led research through higher qualification (Master, Diploma, Magister). Additional evidence of research aptitude is desirable.

We thus expect commitment from the successful applicant to communicate and work with prospective, current, and past students of the university.
Please submit the usual application documents (CV, copies of degrees, portfolio, etc.) together with your cover letter and a two-page draft proposal of your planned PhD research project. Your proposal should outline how it related to at least two of the above thematic research clusters, as well as your goals for personal and research development. Refer to your proposed methods of investigation and to relevant literature in the field.
