Award or Grant Description $$  up to $35k research (cash) grant

The Global Education Analytics Institute (GEAI) in partnership with PEP welcomes young African academics who are driven to work on educational improvement and could benefit from additional support to apply for the Africa Fellows in Education Program.

The program is open to fellows to provide the opportunity to participate in a two-year research and policy development fellowship that exposes them to relevant research and analytical experiences as well as international networks of academics and policy advisers.The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) is an international organization that promotes economic growth and development in developing nations through improving evidence-based policymaking. PEP was founded in 2002 and has its headquarters in Canada.

Why should join for this program? Fellows will investigate the current condition of local assessments and evaluations of educational challenges using this strategy. The initiative will hire a part-time local facilitator to track each fellow’s progress and reinforce new skills.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Africa
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • You must be a Sub-Saharan African national.
  • Possess an MA or Ph.D. in Economics, education policy, social/public policy, development studies, or international development, particularly with a strong emphasis on education. While a Ph.D. is not required, GEAI encourages recent Ph.D. graduates who can benefit from mentorship and additional training in order to become strong researchers.
  • Be skilled in quantitative data analysis, with a solid understanding of data analysis software such as R and Stata.

Offered Benefits

The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) will provide a research (cash) award of $35,000 is included in the funding. Other expenses, up to a maximum of $25K, will be reimbursed directly by the Program for mentorship, study visits, conference travel, and in-country workshops to discuss research findings and training.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Here are the steps to submit your application:
  • Register on the PEP website.
  • Log in to your PEP account. After you’ve activated your profile, you may access your PEP account by clicking the Login
  • Complete your “profile”. Include all information relevant for this application
  • Go to the menu under “My workspace” (top left corner) and click on “Submit a proposal”.Follow the instructions and upload your statement of interest and essay as one/combined document.
  • Return to your PEP account and click on “My Projects” (under “My workspace”) after finished to ensure that the submission was successful. Select the project and navigate to “Documents” to locate, replace, or update your document.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide the given supporting documents:
  • A two-page statement of interest.
  • A two-page paper. The applicant must think about and write about a specific education problem in their own country, as well as how such a problem could be scientifically evaluated using quantitative methodologies, in this essay. The essay must be written entirely in English.
  • A thorough and up-to-date CV with at least two (2) referees who can be contacted by the selection committee.
  • Admission Requirements:Applicants must fulfill the following admission requirements:
  • Must be under the age of 35.
  • Show an interest in educational policy research and analysis.
  • Have or plan to have an association with a research or higher education institution in a Sub-Saharan African country in the near future.
  • Female applicants who meet the qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Language Requirement:: Applicants must fulfill one of the following language requirements:
  • Applicants must be very fluent in the English language (Verbally as well as written).
