Sandia recruits students to work in a variety of technical and business positions as interns across various institutes in New Mexico and California. Interns get to work closely with a mentor while networking and collaborating with scientists, engineers, and other student interns. Workshops, social activities, and seminars go hand-in-hand with other professional development opportunities. Three distinct internship opportunities are offered: Summer Internships: available to students at all education levels from all over the country typically run 10-12 weeks, generally from May to the last Thursday in August summer interns may work up to 40 hours per week students must be full-time in the spring semester immediately preceding the internship Year-Round Internships: allow students who attend local schools to work part-time at a Sandia site students attending more distant schools may be allowed to work offsite through an official telecommuting agreement graduate students may work up to 30 hours a week during academic terms and 40 hours a week during breaks students must be full-time during the academic year Co-Op Internships: allow students to take time off during the academic year to gain work experience at Sandia students work up to 40 hours a week students return to school full-time after the internship internships typically run 3-8 months during the academic term and may include an adjacent summer term students must be enrolled in their school's official co-op program to participate Interns are paid competitively in sync with market rates. Travel expenses may be reimbursed if interns' school and physical address are both more than 50 miles from the Sandia site of internship. Medical benefits (excluding dental and vision) for eligible co-op and year-round interns – as well as their dependents – are offered. Interns also have use of the employee assistance program and on-site health clinic, credit union, and fitness centers. Sandia does not manage housing for interns. Applications should be submitted at least 3 months prior to students' target start date.

Eligibility: Applicants must: be U.S. citizens for positions that require security clearance or as stated in the job posting be full-time students have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 International students who are attending a U.S. university may apply for internships or co-ops that do not require U.S. citizenship. However, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Sandia will not sponsor work authorization for internships.
