The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, in short European Centre, aims at constructing new bridges between stakeholders, sectors, countries, policies, and systems in the field of social welfare in line with the European cohesion strategy. In this context, the European Centre is organizing an international Winter School to further focus its activities in the (potential) candidate countries and countries of the Eastern Partnership.
The theme of the Winter School is ‘Life-course oriented social policies in Eastern Europe’. Taking a life-course perspective in the development and implementation of social policies opens possibilities for discussing particular economic and societal challenges such as demographic change, digitalisation and wealth distribution in a more holistic way.
The Winter School takes place from 4 - 8 Februrary 2019. It aims at gathering and exchanging expertise from experienced researchers who are either based in, or have a particular focus on, (potential) candidate countries and countries of the Eastern Partnership, including (but not limited to) Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine, and Turkey.
We particularly invite scholars with expertise in life-course oriented social policies related to labour market, employment, gender, ageing, digitalisation, wealth, social inclusion, as well as health and long-term care, etc. The aim of the winter school is to discuss and develop papers focusing particularly on life-course approaches and the interfaces between traditional life-stages, for instance:
We would like to invite scholars to share their ideas, outlines or draft papers and to further develop them in a collaborative and academically stimulating environment for subsequent publication.
The call for abstracts on academic papers has now been extended until Sunday, 19 August 2018. For submitting abstracts, please fill in this submission form. Abstracts should be structured (background, objectives, methods, results, conclusions), no longer than 3000 characters (including spaces), and clearly demonstrate the link to the beforementioned theme and geographic scope of the Winter School.
Following a review process, selected experts will be invited to present their paper and to develop it further with their academic peers during the workshop. Draft final papers should be delivered by 30 November 2018.
A registration fee of 250 Eur will be payable in advance of the event. 4 nights of accommodation in a single room will be borne by the organiser and training materials will also be free of charge. However, selected attendees will have to cover any other cost related to their stay in Vienna (e.g. travel cost, visa fees, assurance, food, etc.). A limited number of bursaries will also be available to cover travel cost of up to 450 Eur for attendees from the abovementioned countries
