Political Psychology is a discipline that experienced significant growth in the Anglo-American academic world in recent years. However, it has only started to flourish in Central and Eastern Europe nowadays. Its research is dedicated to understanding how we, humans, perceive and react to the world around us, especially on our interactions with political systems.
This course aims at introducing participants to the main methods in political psychology, focusing on substantive topics that have pressing importance in our days, both in the Americas and Europe, including authoritarianism, intergroup relations, group cohesion, political persuasion, framing, and many others. Our first aim is to introduce students to a quickly developing field of research; these critical issues can be understood at a psychological level, mostly, but not exclusively, through the use of surveys and experiments. Second, we wish to help develop students' research skills by providing room for hands-on activities where participants are encouraged to have practice with designing and carrying on research on such topics using the methods taught in the course. Third, we also aim to continue growing the political psychology research communities in CEE, giving participants a chance to interact with top-level scholars in these areas, from Europe, Palestine, and America.
The course features seminars on methods and substantive topics, roundtable discussions on publishing and grant writing, practical research design and implementation workshops, and students' own project presentations.
Tuition Fee: 400 EUR (Early Bird fee: 360 EUR)
Accommodation in CEU Residence Center:
- In single room: 28 EUR/ night / person - including breakfast
- In shared double room: 17 EUR/ night / person - including breakfast
Estimated living costs: 200 - 250 EUR
The course is generously funded by CEU enabling participation at a low, subsidized tuition cost. As some applicants may have difficulty paying for tuition and/or some of the other associated costs, we may be able to offer a limited number of tuition fee waivers, and, in exceptional circumstances, an accommodation bursary. The number of accommodation stipends is likely to be very small and we advise prospective applicants to research other funding possibilities.
Faculty and Ph.D. students are advised to approach their home departments for travel grants; researchers may have research grants available which can cover their participation, and professionals may turn to their employers to fund their training on SUN. In case an applicant is accepted to two courses, which is possible if the two courses are not overlapping, financial aid is only available for attending one course.

3. Letter of Recommendation
Applicants must have one letter of recommendation submitted. Please arrange for a letter of recommendation to be written by a referee (faculty member, employer, thesis or job supervisor, etc.) who can attest to your abilities, qualifications and academic/professional performance. Please advise the referee about the title and content of the course you are applying to. The letter must reflect participation in this specific course, be written in English and be submitted by the referee online via the online application facility.
4. Statement of Purpose

The statement of purpose should describe how the content and objectives of this course are related to your academic work or studies. Please also describe your general interests with regard to political psychology.
