Teaching in English

This intensive course is concerned with the use of English to teach (international) students. It provides opportunities for learning through reflection, practice and through discussion. You will reflect on your approach to English-medium teaching, you will discuss your experiences with others and you will practice teaching through English and receive feedback on your performances. In this course, you will explore the dynamics of the international classroom.

Nowadays, the teaching staff is increasingly required to teach in English. For this, you need an excellent command of English and a thorough awareness of the EMI methodology; English as a Medium of Instruction. In this course, you will activate and expand English through participation in an English-medium course.

Course activities include:

- Vocabulary for the English Medium Instruction classroom (rephrasing, pre-teaching, daily expressions and personal vocabulary system)

- Grammar (verbs, modal verbs, and questions)

- Awareness and practice of EMI methodology (scaffolding, interaction and creating a safe learning environment. Also dealing with questions, socializing, visual support and classroom English)

- Intercultural communication skills

- Teaching a session

- Pronunciation

This course is suitable for people who have reached CEFR level B2. You are required to do a placement test developed by Babel. This test consists of two parts: multiple choice and writing. A teacher will assess your language skills. On the basis of your test result, you will get advice about which course is suitable for you. Please note that it can take up to 5 working days until your language level is assessed.
