The Italian city of Mulazzo, the Montereggio Paese dei Librai Association and the International Organization of Book Cities (IOI), with the support of Carthusia Edizioni and in collaboration with Bologna Children Book, present the International Silent Bookless Words Contest. The Silent Books competition is open to authors of original and unpublished books created and produced exclusively by narrative through the illustrated images. The Silent Book Competition invites authors and illustrators to think and design a book that speaks a story expressing through illustrated images, which can talk about any subject.It should target a wide and varied part of the audience regardless of the type of story or age group of the audience.
Important Conditions for Participation:
[1] The competition is open to everyone from all over the world regardless of the category of the book they are participating in, but the participant must be at least 18 years old before December 31, 2018. A maximum of three unpublished books are possible for each author.
[2] Participants must submit the original illustrated and previously unpublished book, which has been created and produced exclusively by narrative through the illustrated images.
[3] The draft book should not contain words, except for the headline or subheading. The book should express a novel through illustrations and be characterized by the coherence of the narrative and the beautiful style of presentation. There is no age limit or audience age as the theme of the competition is open.
[4] The illustrations in the book projects can be colored or only in black and white, and any of the modern techniques can be used in drawing drawings and images.
The prize:
The winner of the competition receives a prize money and an opportunity to get published in the Italian magazine Carthusia Edizioni for his original illustrated and unpublished book project. The winner will be selected by an international jury and will receive up to € 4,500. The winner's name will be announced on the contest's official website and on its Facebook page. The winning book will be presented at the awards ceremony in August in Monterrey, Italy.
Please note that the entry fee is EUR 50 per project.
About the founder:
The founder of the Silent Books competition is the Italian artist and writer Gianni di Cono, born in Milan, considered as one of the most influential Italian artists in his field, and one of the largest illustrators in the publishing and printing world in Italy. The artist Di Cono was a legend in his field, he painted the real world around us and illustrated by the wonderful images that he worked passionately, he has presented a lot of extraordinary things in his work and contributed to the expansion of the field of editing and publishing in Italy. He received a gold medal from the New York Painters Association in 2008 and 2010.Much of his work has been published in Italy and abroad, and has been exhibited in numerous individual exhibitions in Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
