The Volkswagen Foundation is an independent non-profit foundation with a private law based in Hanover. With a total funding of around € 150 million a year, it is the largest German private foundation for the promotion of science and one of the largest foundations in the country. Their funds are allocated exclusively to scientific institutions. In more than 50 years of existence, the Volkswagen Foundation has financed approximately 30,000 projects for a total of more than 4.7 billion euros. In addition, it is one of the largest private charitable foundations in Germany.
