Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship is now open for overseas students scheduled to enroll in a Japanese university/graduate school. The Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship supports international students in achieving high academic achievements, deepens mutual international understanding and develops bonds to grow into a bridge between the student’s mother country and Japan.

Eligibility Criteria:

Overseas students who meet all the following requirements are eligible to apply for this scholarship:-

  1. Those who do not have Japanese citizenship and who reside outside Japan.
  2. Those who plan to enter or transfer into a university or graduate school recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan with the intention to obtain a degree.
  3. The ability to understand basic Japanese (JPLT N4 level) is expected.
  4. Applicant must be born after April 1st, 1975 (Under 45 years of age).
  5. It is prohibited to receive scholarships and/or grants given to individuals from other institutions of the same kind.
  6. Previous Yoneyama Scholars are not eligible.
  7. All study fields are eligible.

Benefits:

  • Scholarship Amounts
  1. Undergraduates: ¥100,000 per month.
  2. Master’s students: ¥140,000 per month.
  3. Doctoral students: ¥140,000 per month.
  • Travel expenses for the first visit to Japan after selected.
  • For successful applicants, up to 250,000 yen in Japanese yen will be subsidized for actual expenses that include:
  1. Domestic travel expenses in order to travel to Japan both in the home country and Japan.
  2. Accommodation expenses for the first day in Japan.
  • All relevant receipts must be submitted to the secretariat.
  • The travel expenses are regulated to economy class fees only.

Responsibilities:

  1. Yoneyama Scholars must attend at least one regular meeting of the sewa Rotary Club.
  2. Submit a Scholarship Report twice a year.
  3. Give speeches at regular meetings, attend sewa club and Rotary district activities, and make efforts to deepen mutual understanding throughout such interactions with Rotarians.

Scholarship Period:

  • April 2020 enrollment
    • Undergraduates: Two years (April 2020-March 2022).
    • Graduate students: Two years (April 2020-March 2022).
  • October/September 2020 enrollment
    • Undergraduates: Two years (October/September2020-September/August2022).
    • Graduate students: Two years (October/September2020-September/August2022).

Required Documents:

  • Application form, Research Plan  (Only required for those planning to enter graduate school. Not necessary for undergraduate students to submit).
  • Recommendation letters.
  • For Undergraduates
  1. A recent school in your country.
  2. A recent job place in your country.
  3. A teacher/staff member of your supposed university in Japan.
  • For graduates:
  1. A teacher of your intended graduate school must be submitted.
  2. However, if a letter of acceptance is presentable, any of the following recommendation letters may be substituted: A supervisor/professor in recent university in your country, a recent job place in your country.
  • Notification of acceptance or admission issued by a prospective Japanese school including universities with pre-arrival admission systems.
  • A document certifying Japanese language proficiency.
