Apply to CEU to earn a U.S. and Austrian BA degree in Vienna

Would you like to earn a U.S. and Austrian undergraduate degree at one of the most international universities in Europe?

Based in Vienna, Central European University (CEU) brings together students and faculty from over 100 countries in a community that encourages debate and the open exchange of ideas. Listed among the top 100 universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings in a variety of subjects, CEU offers world-class bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in English to address the key issues of the 21st century. Our English-language bachelor’s programs, accredited in the U.S. and Austria, nurture critical, analytical, and creative thinkers who seek solutions to the complex problems of our world.

Choose your undergraduate degree program

Inspired by the well-established degree created in Oxford over a hundred years ago, this Austrian and U.S. accredited program offers rigorous training in all three disciplines of philosophy, politics and economics. In this multidisciplinary setting, intellectually motivated students will be taught by world-class faculty and will acquire many transferrable skills by examining complex concepts, arguments and world-views. Students will learn in their politics courses to think critically about different political and social structures; in philosophy, they will address fundamental questions about reality and our place in it; and in economics, they will learn about the principles that govern the production and allocation of resources.

The PPE program is multi-disciplinary − students receive thorough training in at least 2 of the 3 PPE disciplines. They can also do serious interdisciplinary work in their BA thesis or their capstone project, and can take courses from outside the PPE framework, which can offer contrasting or more interdisciplinary perspectives on the topics they are interested in. These include 13 elective courses offered by Culture, Politics and Society (CPS), the other BA program, which range from Human Rights through Environmental Science to Nationalism Studies. All students in the four-year program also have an opportunity to study abroad as part of their degree.

The Austrian and U.S. accredited Culture, Politics, and Society (CPS) program provides an interdisciplinary Liberal Arts curriculum updated for 21st century challenges. The curriculum is based on the reality that in order to be an independent thinker in our time, and to be ready for work after graduation, students need to be equipped with skills that go beyond knowing how to read and compose written texts. CPS is designed for the generation that has come of age after the digital revolution, living in a society flooded with information, disinformation and with technological transformations which continue to change how we learn, communicate, and relate to one another.

Students in CPS acquire skills for interpreting a wide variety of information, ranging from classical texts to statistical data, to understanding the algorithms behind common social media graphics. They are trained in the vital skills necessary for producing knowledge and communicating it in multi-media forms outside the classroom. They are also taught a rich and comprehensive curriculum in the social sciences and humanities, opening many paths towards a fourth-year specialization and completion of a BA major.

Spark your career

By developing a wide range of transferable skills, students will receive an excellent foundation for several future career directions. These range from pursuing graduate studies to a wide variety of career options in the private, public and non-profit sectors.
