The NMU International Academic Award is now available to academically talented, undergraduate international students who are enrolled at Northern Michigan University as a full-time associate or baccalaureate degree student. Award recipients are expected to engage in cultural sharing or community service activities.

Eligibility:-

New undergraduate international students who have not earned a bachelor's degree.
Note: students who receive the International Partner Award from Northern Michigan University do not qualify.
The scholarship is awarded based on high school or transfer GPA of 3.0 or better.

Benefits:-

The scholarship value is $2,200 per year.

Requirements and Conditions:-

You should be a full-time undergraduate student at NMU with 12 credit hours or more.
You may receive scholarships for up to 8 semesters (new international freshman) or 6 semesters for transfer students, or until completion of first bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.
Must maintain a cumulative 3.0 NMU G.P.A. and full-time enrollment.
Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy requirements.
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English ( English Language Test Scores).
Re-entry students may have their original NMU scholarship reinstated if they:
- Were eligible for renewal at the time they left NMU.
- Have not attended another college or university between enrollments at NMU.
- Are within the "consecutive semesters" timeline that began with the original awarding date of said scholarship. Semesters away from NMU do not count in the consecutive semesters timeline.

Application Requirements:-

Application Requirements for first-year students:

If you have not attended any college or university after secondary school, you should:-

Submit the Undergraduate Application for Admission.
Pay $35 Application Fee.
Submit Official Academic Documents.
Submit Official English Language Test Scores.
Submit Certification of Finances.

Application Requirements for transfer students:

Transfer students who have attended any college or university after completing secondary school must:-

Submit the Undergraduate Application for Admission.
Pay the $35 Application Fee.
Submit Postsecondary Transcripts
Post-Secondary Transcripts from outside the United States. or Canada must be submitted through an external credential evaluator.
- Only ONE external credential evaluation is required:
  - SpanTran - use this NMU evaluation application ($150)
  - ECE – select the “course by course report” ($160)
  - WES – select the “course by course report with ICAP” ($205)
  - Other NACES-approved evaluator.
- Students must ask the evaluator to send an official copy of their University transcript directly to NMU To be considered official, transcripts must be sent directly from the evaluator (or directly from the issuing institution in a sealed envelope).
Submit Official Secondary School Academic Documents
- If fewer than 12 semester credit hours of postsecondary study (approximately one semester) have been completed, submit official secondary school academic documents.
Submit Official English Language Test Scores.
Submit Certification of Finances.
