The purpose of this funding scheme is to give talented researchers within art history the opportunity to carry out ambitious and innovative research projects of high academic quality that can make a significant contribution to the field of art history in Denmark.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation supports art history research projects of 1-3 years duration.
The applicant must work within the field of art history research and be anchored at a university, museum or other knowledge institution in Denmark (host institution) during the grant period. A commitment letter from the host institution must be submitted with the application.
The project must involve significant research activity and you can therefore not apply if you wish to use the entire grant to organise a conference or publish a book.
Project proposals can address art history research within all time periods from prehistoric to modern times in a Danish or international context. The project proposal must, however demonstrate academic relevance for the research environment at the Danish host institution.
Projects within architecture and design will be taken into consideration, if the applicant sufficiently accounts for the project’s relevance for the visual arts.
The foundation does not support projects within preservation or archeology.
The research project can be an independent project or a clearly defined part of a larger project. A total of DKK 2 million is available for funding of:
1-, 2- and 3-year project grants of DKK 100.000-300.000 per year, with a total of DKK 100.000-900.000 per grant. However, one-year grant applications may exceed a total of DKK 300.000.
