Conference and Workshops at George Mason University

The conference will commence on June 6 with two days of training workshops, covering introductory and advanced topics in network analysis with applications to political science.  These workshops are organized by the Political Networks section of the American Political Science Association and sponsored in large part by the National Science Foundation.  Following the workshops, all conference attendees are invited to an evening reception and plenary talk on June 7.  Panels will begin on June 8 and conclude after lunch on June 9.

The program chairs and host committee are pleased to invite proposal submissions for the 11th Annual Political Networks Conference and Workshops at George Mason University, June 6-9, 2018.

We seek proposals for individual papers, posters, and organized panels that engage in rigorous theoretical and empirical research on political networks. We also welcome contributions that develop novel methodological approaches to the analysis of political networks. We aim to have a conference that represents research from a broad range of subfields and methodologies, and submissions are encouraged from scholars in political science or related disciplines. Methodological approaches may include, but are not limited to observational designs, laboratory and field experiments, ethnography, formal models, and computer simulations.

To submit an individual paper or poster proposal, please submit a title and abstract of no more than 250 words. Three-paper panels may also be submitted; to do so, please note the title of the panel in each paper submission.  A limited number of travel fellowships will be available.  Fellowship applications must be submitted concurrently with paper/poster proposals.

Panels:
Presenters on three-paper panels should prepare to present their research for 15 minutes. The first presenter on every panel will serve as the panel coordinator, keeping time for all presentations and Q&A portions. Q&A may take place after each paper or at the end of the panel – at the panel coordinator’s discretion.  Each room will have a projector and a computer; please bring a USB key or other method of transferring your presentation to the computer.
Poster Session:
The poster session will be held in the Founders Hall MultiPurpose Room. We advise that posters are 36"x48" or smaller. We will provide easels and push-pins, so presenters should not need any additional supplies.
Wireless Internet Access: All participants will have access to wireless internet through the MASON guest network. There is no username/password.
Workshop Software:
Required and suggested software packages for workshops will be posted to the Workshops page.
Meals:
A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for all conference participants.  Additional details will be available as the conference approaches.  If you have dietary restrictions, please note it on your registration form.
