Södertörn University in south Stockholm is a dynamic institute of higher education with a unique profile and high academic standard. As a doctoral candidate in this research project, your main task is to conduct research and write a doctoral thesis on Russia in space. You are expected to carry out case study research, mainly employing qualitative research methods, and write papers to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals. The empirical work is focused on Russian space programs as well as visions of space in Russian science fiction. You will also take doctoral courses, participate in research seminars and present papers at conferences.
General entry requirements:
1. a second-cycle/master level qualification;
2. fulfillment of the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits awarded at second-cycle/master level;
3. the acquisition of substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
Specific entry requirements
A qualified applicant has the equivalent of 90 credits in Political Science (or related field, e.g. Public Administration or International Relations) and has successfully completed second-cycle studies in Political Science or an equivalent field, or who has attained the same qualifications outside of Sweden or by previously taking some equivalent degree. Under certain circumstances, the faculty board may exempt an applicant from fulfilling special qualification requirements.
The programme covers 240 credits, which is the equivalent of four years of full-time study. However, the position may entail other duties within education, research and/or administration, but these may be equivalent to no more than 20 % of full-time.
An application for a place on a third-cycle programme is also an application for employment on a doctoral studentship. The employment is for a maximum of four years full-time studies (or up to five years of less than full-time studies).
