The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a child who fights courageously for children’s rights. All winners have shown a remarkable commitment to combating problems millions of children face worldwide. The motivation behind the prize is to provide a platform for children to express their ideas and personal involvement in children’s rights. KidsRights feels that children should be recognized, awarded and motivated in their fierce efforts to improve their own situation and that of the children in their environment and even the world.

The prize was launched by KidsRights during the 2005 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates at the Capitol in Rome, chaired by Mikhail Gorbachev. Since then, the prize has been presented every year by a Nobel Peace Laureate. The International Children’s Peace Prize is an initiative of Marc Dullaert, Chairman and Founder of the KidsRights Foundation. Winning the International Children’s Peace Prize puts changemaker in news headlines around the world. Last year, the winners’ message reached more than 1.2 billion people!

Each year the International Children’s Peace Prize winner is selected from nominations from all over the world. An Expert Committee assesses the candidates and comprises a selected list of nominees. The shortlisted nominees are reviewed and investigated by KidsRights. A local visit to a nominee may also be part of the review process. After all the reviews are done, the Expert Committee then selects the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize.

The organization or individual nominating a changemaker (the nominating party) has the responsibility to inform the changemaker and get his/her approval for the nomination. The nominating party agrees to provide the necessary information to KidsRights to complete the nomination. In case the child is shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace Prize, the nominating party also has the responsibility to guide and assist the child in dealing with (media) attention for his/her story. In case the child is shortlisted as the winner, the nominating party provides assistance for the local check by KidsRights and the development of the life story of the winner. Furthermore, the nominating party assists the child in his/her preparation for the award ceremony and is, besides the winner, the first point of contact for KidsRights.

The nominator can nominate a child by filling in the nomination form provided. Nominators can also email The KidsRights Foundation at [email protected] and they will make sure to send nominators a copy and keep them updated on the nomination process as well as the International Children’s Peace Prize.
