The Mahathir Science Award invites you to apply for its competition in scientific research. This award will be given to researchers who have made internationally recognized breakthroughs in pioneering tropical research in the fields of tropical agriculture, tropical architecture and engineering, tropical medicine or tropical Natural Resources.

Eligibility:

  • Any individual or organization can nominate for the award. However, this individual or organization cannot self-nominate themselves.
  • This award rewards any scientists, institution or organization worldwide in recognition of contributions and innovations towards solving problems in the tropics through science and technology and to be awarded to the most deserving based on merit.
  •  The selection of candidates is based on the originality of each candidate’s achievements, the impact of candidate’s achievements on the society and the world, including future impact and its significance in solving the problems of the tropics by improving the quality of life and contributing to the region’s prosperity. 

Selection Criteria:

  1. The significant research & studies must contribute to new knowledge in solving problems in tropics.
  2. Your research must demonstrable evidence of significant socio as well as societal impact.
  3. Your work should have a great contribution to policy and governance which lead to sustainable improvement to the quality of life.
  4. You should search well in national, regional and international aspects to consider whether same work nominated has been previously awarded or not.
  5. Your H-index or equivalent.
  6. The selection of Award winner is based on the scientific breakthroughs, originality of work, impact and its significance in solving the problems of the tropics by improving the quality of life and contributing to the region’s prosperity.

Prize:

There is only one award each year which will be conferred covering any of the four fields which listed before. Please note that the award of this competition carries a cash prize of 100,000 USD, a gold medal as well as a certificate.

Required Documents:

  • Recent photograph (in high-resolution, not less than 1MB).
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • List of honors and awards.
  • List of product/services commercialized.
  • List of publications and patent (granted and pending).
  • Letter of referral (at least two (2) letters of referral to support the nomination).
  • Supporting document (newspaper clipping, media announcement, etc).
  • SELF NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

The merits of the nominee will be assessed based on the materials which are being provided by the nominator and responses to the questions in the nomination form. It is essential that the nominator attaches to the form all background information about the nominee and evidence of the contribution that merits consideration for this award. About MSA:

The Mahathir Science Award which known by ( MSA ) is established to be Malaysia’s most prestigious international Science Award for tropical sciences. This award is administered by the Mahathir Science Award Foundation ( MSAF ). The Mahathir Science Award was launched in the honor of Dr Mahathir Mohamad on 17th August 2004, by the man himself. The winner/laureate will receive 100,000 USD, a gold medallion, and a certificate.
