The National Museum of Natural Sciences and The Catalan Association of Science Communication organize the award of Illustraciencia "International Award on Scientific Illustration” sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

Eligibility:

The participants assure and warrant to the organization that they are the sole owners of the copyright in the work submitted to the contest and that they are fully responsible for third party rights in their submitted works and any claims of third parties to image rights.
All work teams or individuals must be over 18 years to be able to participate in this award.
Participant from any country can participate in this competition.
The winner of the previous edition, the organizing committee and the members of the jury are excluded from this call.
The jury will select a maximum of 40 illustrations from among all received proposals to be ingapart of Illustraciencia´s fifth edition exhibition taking into account their scientific accuracy, innovation, and information capacity. Among these ones, the jury will select unanimously or by a majority of votes the winning proposal, and up to five special mentions to the most outstanding works.
The Audience Award will be made through popular vote on Facebook.
Each participant is only able to submit a single work. In the case of entering as a team, all members should indicate their names as they participate in the team.
The categories of the competition are scientific and naturalist.

Prizes:

The organizing committee of the competition will award one prize to the winners of each category.
The winner of the Illustraciencia contest will receive prize money of 600 euros, while the winner chosen by the public will receive a diploma. The prize awarded is subjected to applicable tax provisions.
The jury will be formed from representatives of MNCN-CSIC and ACCC, and professional experts from the Illustraciencia Advisory Committee.

About Illustraciencia:

Illustraciencia disseminates and celebrates the scientific and natural illustration since 2009. It organizes an international award and, of all the works presented, the professional jury selects the 40 finalists that form the traveling exhibition. From the finalists, and according to the aim of Illustraciencia, the authors of the two winning works are economically rewarded. It offers courses of scientific illustration in which the assistants learn to use different techniques of illustration.
