The University of Copenhagen seeks to recruit a postdoctoral researcher in biological physics to work on a project funded by a research grant entitled "Bacteria approaching zero growth: Continuous or Discontinuous Phase Transition?". The project aims to uncover the unexplored physiology of bacterial extremely slow growth and to understand its eventual universal properties both experimentally and theoretically. 

Required Areas:

  1. Biological physics.
  2. Statistical physics.
  3. Quantitative biology.
  4. Microbiology.
  5. Relevant techniques include experimental microbiology and microscopy as well as computational and theoretical analysis of biological systems, dynamical systems, and stochastic models.              

Job Purpose:

  1. Conducting research in biological physics, in the topic related to bacterial physiology. The research involves lab experiments and computational modeling.
  2. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to an interdisciplinary environment of physicists and biologists engaged in understanding life phenomena, positively contribute to the atmosphere at the University of Copenhagen's group and supervise students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Terms of Employment:

  1. The position is for a period of 2 years. The starting date is 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
  2. The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
  3. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
  4. The starting salary is currently up to DKK 426.625 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 72.952). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
  5. The applicants should have received a recent Ph.D. in the above mentioned or related field by the start of the position.
