The Wall Street Journal internship program is an opportunity for college juniors, seniors and graduate students (Master- PhD) who intend to pursue a career in video journalism, working with some of the best journalists in the world. The 10-week internship program offers hands-on work experience and one-on-one mentorship, plus orientation and tailored training sessions. The majority of our interns will be based in New York, with a few assigned to Washington, San Francisco or Los Angeles.  Interns are treated like full-time staff members and are encouraged to pitch their own stories and projects.

Eligibility:

  1. You don’t need to be an expert in business or finance to apply, but you do need to be curious and eager to learn.
  2. You should have a strong interest in domestic and international news, as well as business and financial news.
  3. Basic video shooting and editing skills, as well as an understanding of video formats and delivery methods, are necessary.
  4. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent writing and reporting skills are required.
  5. Demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  1. You will work closely with other reporters and editors to deliver prompt, accurate reporting of news.
  2. You will be expected to generate your own story ideas and follow those stories through to completion with supervision and guidance from an editor.
  3. You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of our growing audience on various platforms and able to work independently under deadline pressure.
  4. You should have completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization, or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

Required Documents:

Please submit a resume, cover letter and no more than five samples of your work.

Timing:

  • Summer internships take place over June, July and August, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.
  • Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by mid-December.

Benefits:

  • Interns are paid $900 per week, and get help with the cost of public transportation.
  • Housing is not provided, but they can help point you in the right direction.
