Expedia is looking for a Software Development Engineer in Merchandising Technology to join the team in Amman, Jordan for 2020. The team is nimble and enjoys solving problems with collaboration across many different teams, and its primary goal is to build and support a suite of merchandising tools that help the company deliver the very best value to Expedia customers. At the same time, it helps internal merchandising specialists and campaign managers to work more efficiently, be more collaborative, and able to focus on the highest value opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- You will work closely with the product management team, project managers and other software engineers to drive improvements to the systems, design and develop new services and software solutions, and create and track metrics to ensure high quality results.
- You will have the opportunity to work at all levels of the software development life-cycle: from building and deploying micro-services in the cloud, to crunching and making sense of vast amounts of inventory and user interaction data, to implementing rich and compelling user interfaces.

Requirements:
- Has software development experience in an Agile environment.
- Has solid commercial experience of Java and Spring Framework.
- Has some experience with modern JavaScript concepts and libraries.
- Has some experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Enjoys the creativity of solving problems.
- Can learn new technologies and programming languages quickly, and enjoys doing so.
- Can react effectively to sometimes fast evolving product priorities.
- Enjoys troubleshooting, and trying different approaches as new challenges arise.
- Is confident in presenting features to a wide group of internal stakeholders.
- Can communicate effectively with a diverse global engineering community.
- Knows how to ask for help.
- Is meticulous about testing their own code.
Preferable requirements:
- Experience with AWS or other public cloud providers (GCP, Azure).
- Experience with Continuous Delivery and modern DevOps concepts.
- Familiarity and experience with TDD.
- Interest and experience in working with big data and applying data science to problems.
