The VELUX Group has manufacturing and sales operations in more than 40 countries, with an extensive distribution network. Their products include roof windows and modular skylights, as well as a range of decorative elements, blinds, roller shutters, installation solutions and remote controls.
The first edition of the architectural awards “Bringing Light to Life” took place in 2014. The theme of the award was the inter folding of Bulgarian architectural tradition and the modern language of forms.

They have the pleasure to announce, that the sixth edition of the architectural awards for projects that demonstrate the implementation possibilities of roof windows “Bringing Light to Life” 2019 starred already!
Daylight is priceless for us in connection with our psyche and physiology, its delivery to our homes and public buildings is our mission.
VELUX roof windows give a unique method to get large amounts of daylight and fresh air through the roof.
VELUX is a global leader for solutions to transform loft spaces and utilize the room under the roof. In the building sector it is common to have different architectural ideas and form giving, that inevitably interact with the large product scope of VELUX. The competition is here to provoke and develop the possibilities for utilization and improving of comfort in the rooms under the roof, different design solutions and unorthodox implementation concepts.
The sharing of the best examples of your unique ideas and solutions with other architects from Bulgaria and the globe, as well as with our clients is our common goal.
The countries participating are: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Macedonia and Turkey.
This competition is for real projects, no conceptual designs would be considered. The projects applying must have roof windows and/or sun tunnels for sloped and/or flat roof. Projects could be submitted by architects and interior designers. No restriction to the number of projects submitted by one author is given.
For the participation minimum required are: floorplan, facades, section and a short text describing the design idea. Details, 3D visualizations, real pictures and additional information are welcome. Visualized projects have an advantage during the jury process. The projects could be from 2018 and 2019, design stage is irrelevant, the building could have also being completed within those two years.
Prize money:
1. Winner in “Family houses” category – EUR 500
2. Winner in “Residential and public buildings” category – EUR 500
3. Winner in “Renovations” category – EUR 500
4. Winner “Best prize” – EUR 2500 and a ticket to Daylight Symposium 2021
